ONidum Victoria Gardens
The beautiful Victoria Gardens in the heart of Neath was created to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
Laid out in 1897 (officially opened on 22 June 1897 by the Mayor) and fully completed/re-opened in 1898, the gardens were designed by local man Thomas Snow as a proper urban park for the growing town.
It's a classic Victorian gem: think original bandstand (still there for concerts & events!), the Gorsedd stones (from past Eisteddfods), the bronze statue of local bigwig Howel Gwyn, paths, flower beds, and that peaceful community vibe.
Over the years it's seen it all – from early 1900s trams rumbling past, wartime memories, to a major £2 million restoration in 2011 (thanks to Lottery funding) that brought it back to its former glory.
Today, it's still a green oasis smack in the centre – perfect for a stroll, lunch on a bench, or catching a band playing. One of Neath's proudest spots, full of heritage and charm!
